Freshman Daria Braboy had a very impressive rookie indoor campaign for the Anchorwomen and she looks to extend her success into the outdoor season. She ended the indoor season breaking her own RIC record in the 400m and earned All-ECAC honors. The Anchorwomen is also coached by Kevin Jackson and like the men’s team, they will also open their outdoor season on Saturday March 31 in the Coast Guard Invitational.
Last season, RIC tied for 27th place at the New England Division III Championships and placed fourth out of six teams in the Little East Conference. The team lost Kayla DiBlasi, its MVP from last season, but look to their young talent this year.
The team is loaded with underclassmen this season as there are seven freshmen, four sophomores and only two upperclassmen on the roster. Indoor track captains, sophomores Natasha Miller and Chelsea Marshall look to be the outdoor captains as well.
Amanda Kelley enters as the team’s only senior and was 2008 First Team All-American in the javelin.
Sophomore Jeanette Leo participates in the hammer throw event and had a season-best 35.55m throw last season which was good enough for a ninth place finish at the N.E. Alliance Championships.
Marshall had season best times last year of 20:21.21 in the 5,000m, 2:41.20 in the 800m and 5:29.83 in the 1500m event.
Miller is coming off of a successful 2011 outdoor season in which she was part of the 4x400m relay team that earned N.E. Alliance honors. She also finished third in the 100m and 200m events at the Swanson Invitational.
Freshman Kadijah Johnson takes part in the field events and ended her indoor season with an 11th place finish in the weight throw at the ECAC Division III Championships.
Fellow freshman Chelsea Key is also looking to build off a good indoor season, which ended with a 16th place finish in the 4x400m relay event.
