Ten years ago people around the world were shocked and saddened by the tragic events that unfolded in New York City, Washington D.C. and outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It was a day that no American citizen will ever forget.
At Rhode Island College, sophomore Jack Woelfel, who is also the Web Manager of The Anchor Newspaper decided to create a memorial in the Quad to honor the 2,977 innocent people who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.
“I was reading about some of the memorials that other universities were creating and realized that I wanted to do something,” said Woelfel.
The goal of the memorial, according to Woelfel, was to put the tragedy in perspective for people. “Its really in your face, it helps you realize just how tragic that day was to see the names of the victims.”
