Whether you live on campus or commute, we all have to eat at some point. The campus provides two cafés and one dining center. Commuter students can use cash or put money onto their ID cards to purchase food. Resident students are required to buy a meal plan, and depending on what plan you sign up for, you’ll have a certain number of meals per week as well as bonus dollars and guest passes that can be used through the semester. The cafés have a variety of sandwiches and salads available as well as pizza, soft drinks and sweets. One café is located on the lower floor of the student union, and the other is in Building 3 on The East Campus.
Donovan Dining Center is open until 7 p.m. on weekdays, has a variety of food available for every meal. You can view the selections weekly using their new online menu. If you have any dietary needs or restrictions don’t hesitate to speak to or email a staff member. The reason why the vegan selections have improved and why bacon is available on nearly everything is because students have made requests and suggestions. A lot of freshmen tend to gravitate towards burgers, fries and soda, which is where your freshman 15 will come from, so check out what’s available before defaulting to fried food every day.
If you find yourself wanting something else, there are plenty of restaurants in the area, as well as places that deliver to the campus. This is not an invitation to pull a Jeff Spicoli and order a pizza in your world history class, but really if you tell them to bring the food to the Student Union loop they’ll do it. Speaking of pizza, Golden Crust, Sicilias, New York Pizza, Dominos and Campus Pizza all deliver until midnight or later, so check them out if you’re in the mood for a late night snack. If you’re more in the mood for chicken, both Royal Fried Chicken and Wings Over Providence deliver to the campus. Wings Over Providence has an online ordering option and over 20 flavors to choose from. Who can resist? If you’re craving something a little different, Red Ginger in Johnston delivers a variety of American chop suey and authentic Chinese cuisine. To find out more information, check online for menus as well as delivery hours. If you live in the dorms, you’ll usually find menus at your dorm’s front desk.
